André Eduard Marty (1882-1974)

A student of philosophy as well as an artist, Andre Marty, graduate of the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris – had the most delicate and refined style of all the artists of La Gazette du Bon Ton to which he collaborated regularly between 1912 and 1925. He also worked for Femina, Vogue, L’Illustration des Modes and Harper’s Bazaar and designed many stage sets and posters (the very first poster for the “Ballets Russes” in 1910, posters for the Paris Opera and many Parisian theaters). Many of his design ideas were copied for vases, bowls and jewelry in enamel. Among the many books he illustrated are “Comœdia Illustre” in 1909, “Constance dans les Cieux”, 1925 and “L’Oiseau Bleu”, 1945.
